The Dodge Challenger Drag Pak has returned for 2020. It may look similar to the previous model from five years ago, but Dodge added several tweaks and upgrades to make it the fastest and most capable factory drag car ever from Mopar.
With this 2020 model, only a supercharged V8 engine is available. Mopar says this Dodge Challenger Drag Pak is more powerful than its predecessor. This would make it capable of breaking the 1,200 hp record of the previous model. The V8 engine is paired solely to a three-speed automatic transmission with a manual shifter.
In order to support the massive engine, several enhancements were added to the chassis, suspension and driveline. A Strange solid axle replaced the independent rear suspension and axles, plus Dodge added a four-link suspension. The front end almost remained stock, except for the double-adjustable Bilstein shocks. The engine is mounted to a subframe member that is good for weight distribution and the center of gravity. It features custom Weld Racing wheels that have “DRAGPAK” engraved on them and is complimented with high-performance brakes.
Looking at the interior, Dodge added a welded-in roll cage certified for 7.5 second quarter-mile times. The Drag Pak offers front and rear spoilers to help keep the car on the ground. Every Drag Pak car comes standard with a wheelie bar and parachute.
Dodge will only build fifty of the 2020 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak vehicles. They are only available in a race car option, and will not be street legal. They will be eligible for competing in sportsman classes in NHRA and NMCA drag racing series. Dodge has not released any pricing on the Drag Pak, but those numbers will be available early next year.
