The 2020 Jeep Wrangler diesel option is a $6,000 upgrade. But, it’s finally here! A recent leak about the diesel-powered Wrangler suggests the massive charge for the upgrade. Enthusiasts have been waiting for the diesel-option since it debuted at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The 2020 model will be the third year for the Jeep Wrangler JL. The new order guide was posted for the lineup, which lists all the options with pricing available for that model year. On it, the diesel option is listed for $6,000, or $3,250 more than the standard base V6 Pentastar engine paired with the eight-speed automatic. A Jeep representative did confirm the diesel will only be paired with an automatic transmission.
This diesel option will put a base Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport priced close to $40,000. This will be the lowest pricing option to get into the diesel engine. The 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine gets 240 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque, and it’s exclusive to the four-door model. The diesel comes standard with engine start-stop.
If you are looking for more features in a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Diesel, the price jump will be steep. For a well-equipped diesel-powered Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, expect to pay upward of $60,000. This powertrain will go on sale by the end of the year. The EcoDiesel engine will be available on four-door Sport, Sahara, and Rubicon models. The same price premium will be offered sometime next year for the diesel V-6 on the Jeep Gladiator.
