The launch of the all-electric Porsche Taycan, the performance EV, is on the horizon. The Mission “E” concept will come in three variants: Taycan, Taycan 4S and Taycan Turbo. The Taycan will start in the low $90,000. The Taycan 4S starting in the high $90,000, and the Turbo over $130,000. Production should fulfill orders next December (2019) and requires a $2,500 deposit to put in the order.
The production of the Taycan will create 1,200 new jobs, at the headquarters in Zuffenhausen. Porsche plans to invest more than six billion euros (6.7 billion US dollars) in electromobility by 2022. A paint shop, dedicated assembly area for the Taycan and a conveyor bridge for transporting the painted bodies are currently being constructed. The current engine plant is being expanded to manufacture electric drives, along with an additional body shop.
The Taycan will be powered by two permanently synchronous motors (PSM) with an output of over 600 hp. This will be unprecedented power coming from an all-electric vehicle. Multiple jump starts are possible in succession without the loss of performance, and the vehicle’s maximum range is over 500 km (310 miles) in accordance with the New European Driving Cycle, or NEDC. It will be an all-electric car using the “turbo” term without utilizing any type of turbocharger. It refers to “turbo” as its planned high-speed chargers as “Turbo Charging Network.” Porsche CFO Lutz Meschke wants to add an even higher-performance Taycan, the Taycan Turbo S. It will have a price tag around $230,000 US Dollars.
