Nissan confirms the farewell of the Titan XD diesel Cummins-built V8 engine. The 2019 variation will be the final production year, as Nissan drops the engine from the full-size truck in December. The discontinuation will stop production of the Cummins 5.0-liter turbocharged V8, which produces 310 horsepower and 55 pound-feet of torque. Confirmed by a Nissan representative, termination of the relationship was a mutual decision.
Nissan has more on the chopping block this year, with the regular Titan and heavier duty Titan XD going to the graveyard. Nissan is keeping the extended cab and quad cab variants. The full-size truck market is competitive and sometimes requires new strategies to increase or sustain business.
However, even with some options leaving the lineup, the Titan will receive a refresh this fall. Spy shots have been posted of the camouflaged truck driving around. The only initial noticeable change is a modified front fascia. The interior will also have a refresh with an upgraded infotainment option. Nissan will most likely move forward with the 5.6-liter gas-powered V8 options, producing 390 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque.
