To celebrate Hemi Day, 4/26, Mopar announced pricing for the 426 Hellephant Supercharged Hemi Crate Engine. FCA is now taking orders on the beastly 1000 hp, 950 lb-ft of torque, V-8 crate engine. Mopar continued to celebrate this important day with Hemi-themed content across all their social media channels.
The engine is reminiscent of the 426 Hemi engine of the 1960’s muscle car era, name the “Elephant.” Like that engine, there won’t be many Hellephant engines actually sold. The 7-liter Elephant engine only produced 11,000 units during its seven year run. Expect buyers to be dropping this Hellephant into some restoration builds, off-road monsters, and race-only vehicles.
The official name is the Mopar Hellephant 426 Supercharged Hemi Crate Engine (P/N P5160194). The Crate Engine is priced at $29,995, which is a bargain when you break it down to $29.95 per pony. The installation kit (P/N 77072500) will give the installer a plug in experience, costing $2695. Several other products are available to ease installation, including the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) kit, an A/C Expansion kit, the Exhaust Manifold kit, a Rear Sump Oil Pan kit, and a 45-degree oil filter. They are all available to preorder through the Mopar product website.
Mopar stated, “more than 1000 people have already pledged to purchase on since its introduction at the 2018 SEMA show.” Production has begun and crate deliveries are expected later this year. Ordering information for the Hellephant and accessories can be found at www.cratehemi.com.
