Leaked images of the 2022 Alfa Romeo GTV hybrid shows a new high performance coupe. Last summer, Alfa Romeo announced they would bring back the GTV name with a high-performance car as part of their five-year plan. Initially at the FCA conference, they showed a teaser, but this recent leak reported originated from an official Alfa Romeo event. While the leak isn’t great, it does give some validity to this representation of the GTV.
The supercar will reboot Alfa Romeo’s historic GTV name, the previous-generation GTV coupe ended in 2005. The automaker plans to give this sleek coupe the GTV 600 horsepower. Most likely, Alfa will use the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 in combination with a hybrid electrical system. Information released previously said to expect all-wheel drive, a 50/50 weight distribution, and torque vectoring for the GTV, plus the benefit of a short electric-only range.
This first look at the side profile displays a beautiful design. Alfa’s Giorgio platform was designed with electrification in mind, with the Giulia and Stelvio being both dynamic options in their respective classes. The exterior and interior design for the XC40 will have similar design qualities but with hybrid capabilities. The image of the GTV looks like it would compete with the luxury grand tourers like the BMW 8 Series and the Lexus LC500.
In 2022, the Volvo GTV will be joined by a new 8C supercar with even more horsepower. The 8C will also be using the hybrid powertrain. Both of the cars won’t be in production for a few years, but hopefully the concepts will show up at auto shows as we inch towards reveals.
