It’s the end of the line for the 2020 Mercedes-Benz SLC with Final Edition. The smallest roadster is riding into the sunset, with a special Final Edition. The SLC replaced the SLK in 2016, but essentially has been around since 1996. This vehicle was the maverick that started the folding hard-top movement. Mercedes produced the vario-roof combined open-air driving without compromising comfort when the weather went bad. It started a trend with several automakers including Ford, Peugeot, Renault, and Volvo. The idea only worked out for Mercedes, because no other automaker experienced continued success with the concept. THe SLC/K kept the folding hard-top for three generations, and now is the last chance to buy one.
The Final Edition goes back to its first-generation roots with an optional Sun Yellow paint exterior. This specific color is a tribute to the Yellowstone color the SLK originally launched in, also known as Sunburst Yellow in the U.S. market. The color will be an option on the SLC 43 in the U.S., and the SLC 300 in Europe. The other specialty color is Selenite Grey, available on the U.S. SLC 300. It doesn’t quite have the same pop as the Sun Yellow.
It’s running on a standard AMG Line model, but includes bespoke wheels, bumpers and extra equipment standard. It will be available as either a four-cylinder SLC 300 or the six-cylinder Mercedes-AMG SLC 43. The SLC has a sporty lower suspension, drilled brake rotors and AMG Styling front and rear bumpers. The SLC 43 has special high gloss black, 5-spoke AMG light-allow 18-inch wheels with yellow rims. Both SLC Final Editions models get black trim on the door handles, mirrors and exterior accents. The interior has Nappa leather in Black and Silver with Grey topstitching on the seats, the door trim and door center panels. The Grey seat belts match the topstitching.
Next month at the Geneva Motor Show, the Mercedes-Benz SLC roadsters will be on display. Sales in the U.S. will be available in late 2020. Pricing will be available closer to the release date. The automaker has not released any information regarding a replacement for the SLC.
