It’s here, 2019 is saying farewell to the Audi A3 Cabriolet. The automaker has decided to call it quits on the little convertible. There has not been an official announcement from Audi, but reportedly a company represented reported the information to Car and Driver.
After the Audi A3 is gone, Audi will only have two four-seat convertibles remaining, the A5 and S5. Most likely, cutting the A3 out of the lineup is a business strategy due to lagging sales. Sales on the A3 have continued to follow a downward trend over the past few years. Audi sold barely over 18,000 in 2018, versus almost 36,000 in 2015, and this year they are on track to only sell half of the total in 2018.
The 2019 Audi A3 Cabriolet is priced starting at $39,895, but easily jumps up above $50,000 at the highest trim level. That’s a big price tag to carry for a little car. When the A3 Cabriolet is gone, consumers still have plenty of options to go topless with the A5, S5 and the TT Roadster. Big spenders can also opt for the drop top R8 Spyder.
