The Ford GT is officially the first street-legal car to hit 300 mph. The 2006 Ford GT hit 300.4 mph at the Texas Mile event this past weekend. The GT was driven and modified by M2K Motorsports, beating out Hennessey, Bugatti and Koenigsegg to reach that speed. Previously, the same GT owned the record at 293.6 mph. With around 2,500 horsepower, it’s hard to believe the GT is a street legal ride.
It’s still a Ford engine, the 5.4-liter V8, but now it is twin-turbocharged. This upgrade produces 45 psi of boost while running on Methanol. The Ford GT kept the standard six-speed manual transmission. The video shows the last run where the GT hits the 300 mph goal. The race was held at the Victoria Regional Airport. It’s an impressive run, rattles your chest, and definitely needs a parachute to stop. Check out the twin turbos making history.
