Several spinoffs are planned or the “Fast and Furious” film franchise, but first up is “Hobbes & Shaw,” hitting theaters on August 2. The spinoff definitely gives some nods to the original from 2001, by driving a car under a semi truck box. In “The Fast and the Furious” the team drives a Honda Civic under the truck while stealing the payload. In the new movie, Jason Statham and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson drive a McLaren beneath a semi truck box in the trailer.
In this first spinoff in the Fast franchise, the movie focuses on two former bad buys, Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw. They are brought together to defeat the new villain played by Idris Elba, who plays Brixton. His character is a tech-infused invincible super specimen called a “human evolutionary change.” Hobbs and Shaw are put to the test, to save the world from Brixton.
Along with loads of motorcycles and military vehicles, the McLaren 720s is the most influential automobile cameo. McLaren does not disappoint. To add to the hype, the Rock posted a picture on Instagram, with him at Hobbs Customs, a chop shop owned by the Hobbs Bros. Fingers crossed, we see some badass car chase scenes and creations throughout the film.
Up next for the Fast franchise, will be a female-focusing film, being the second of three total spinoffs. The leads will be Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
