The Bugatti La Voiture Noire, or the Black Car, is built as an one-of-a-kind tribute to the Type 57 SC Atlantic. Tuesday, at the Geneva Motor Show, the French luxury car maker introduced their vehicle to the world. The La Voiture Noire is now the most expensive car in the world. This tribute design commences the celebration of 110 years of Bugatti. Historically, Bugatti designed four Type 57 SC Atlantic’s between 1936 and 1938. Ettore Bugatti’s son, Jean, was part of the development team for the Type 57 series. He used a mix of aircraft styling and the distinguished tear-drop shape as inspiration. This new car design pays homage to Jean Bugatti’s black car directly.

The new car definitely has similar features to the Chiron. The La Voiture Noire has the same Chiron W16 engine with all four turbos attached. The performance numbers are replicated, those 16 cylinders are pumping out 1,479 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque. Though, the French car is set apart by the tailpipes. Six powerful pipes shoot out between the winglets in the diffuser, being a direct tribute to the Type 57 SC Atlantic. On the La Voiture Noire, the tailpipes are massive roundels, compared to dainty thin pipes from the 1930’s Type 57 SC Atlantic.

The windshield moves seamlessly into the windows and back to the sides smoothly. Bugatti said the intention was to make it “all of a piece.” Like the 57 SC Atlantic, this vehicle features a dorsal fin running from the front of the car to the rear. However, on the La Voiture Noire, the dorsal is more conservative in appearance. All of the body components were handmade using carbon fiber with a glossy black carbon fiber finish. The entire design deceives the eye, looking more like a concept of your dreams versus one in existence.

Bugatti made the statement, “This is a coupe with the comfort of a luxury limousine and the power of a hyper sports car.” Bugatti has not revealed the buyers name, however, speculation points to Dr. Ferdinand Piesch, grandson of Ferdinand Porsche and ex-chairman of the Volkswagen Group. It only makes sense for someone deeply connected to the Bugatti brand, and with immense financial resources to own this creation. Bugatti said the price was $12,503,150 before taxes. Bugatti has officially created the most expensive car in the world. We expect nothing less.
