This year, Dodge unleashes a beast at the One Lap of America motorsports event. They brought an AWD Durango SRT with the 797hp Hellcat Redeye engine. It’s called the Dodge Durango SRT Pursuit, but nicknamed “Speed Trap” because it’s coming to get you.
The Tire Rack Brock Yates’ One Lap of America is a motorsports event that has been held since 1984. The competitors drive cross country, race track to race track, sometimes for 24 hours at a time, with no support crew. Many famous drivers have participated in the event, and it’s sanctioned by National Auto Sport Association and benefits the Alzheimer’s Association (since 2013). Found Brock Yates suffered from the disease for nearly 12 years until he died in 2016.
The Durango SRT Pursuit race SUV handles better with the concept lowering springs and 11-inch wide wheels with 305-mm wide tires, just like on the Challenger Hellcat Widebody. To increase the stopping ability, it has a similar set up like the TrackHawk, with 15.75-inch brake rotors up front with 6-piston calipers, and 13.78-inch rotors with four-piston calipers in the rear. To drop weight, they took out the two back rows of seats, but kept the heated and cooled front ones. The driver will be safe with the roll cage and racing harness. The extras include a cat-back exhaust and the lo-pro police light bar and paint scheme.
Obviously, this isn’t a current production options, but the seed has been planted. The possibility of pairing the Dodge Durango with the 797-horsepower Hellcat Redeye engine is conceptualized. Can we expect this option in the future?
