With the midsize truck category facing some new competition this year, Toyota announces ahead of the Chicago Auto Show, the release of the refreshed 2020 Toyota Tacoma. The automaker released an artistic silhouetted picture photographed against a mountain at dusk. The Tacoma was last updated in 2016, however with the redesigned 2019 Ford Ranger and debut of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, Toyota feels the pressure to do a mid-cycle refresh.
In comparison, the new model features redesigned rectangular headlights, and the lines running along the roof are gone, possibly for aerodynamic design. The grille appears to have the same shape, from what can partially be seen in the photo, but has darker inserts. Hopefully, a few more teaser trailers will be released leading up to the debut during the Chicago Auto Show.
As the midsize market becomes more saturated, Toyota will need to maintain damage control to keep up in the market. The Tacoma is the top-selling truck for Toyota, up almost 24 percent in 2018 with 245,659. Hopefully, this update will bring Toyota’s Entune 3.0 infotainment system, which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The full details will have to wait until the press conference at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, in Chicago.
