Porsche decided to produce the Cayman rally car, after being well-received at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland. The fully functional Porsche Cayman rally concept is based on the GT4 Clubsport race car. It will be up and ready to race in 2020. The production car will be derived from the new 719 Cayman GT4 Clubsport with a 3.8-liter flat-6 engine pushing 420 horsepower. Porsche will be using the plant-fiber composite body panels.
This Porsche rally car will compete in the FIA’s R-GT class. This class is for two-door sports cars only. All cars in this special class must have a power-to-weight ratio of 7.5 pounds per horsepower. The two main cars competing in this class are: the Fiat Abarth 124 Rally and the Porsche 911 997 GT3 Cup R-GT.
