McLaren has created another Longtail classic, the 600LT Spider. It is engineered to be faster, lighter and more agile on the road. This McLaren will deliver all the track performance of the 600LT coupe, but adds the freedom of going topless (wind in your hair topless). With the top down, speeds up to 196 mph can be enjoyed, or 201 mph with top up. McLaren was able to only add 110 pounds to the Spider, giving it a dry weight of 2,859 pounds. Customers can drop a little more weight with the options of ordering their seats from the Senna and with radio and climate delete. However, the automaker used carbon fiber MonoCell II Chassis to attribute the initial weight loss. Not only created light, but strong, removing the need to include additional stiffening to maintain extreme levels of performance and agility.
The 600LT Spider is charged by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8, with 592 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. That delivers 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, matching the coupe. The power is delivered by a dual-clutch seven-speed transmission. In Sport mode, an Ignition Cut feature facilitates faster shifting. In Track mode, the Inertia Push gearshift feature boosts acceleration. The Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires are designed for road grabbing traction. The interior has the minimal Alcantara trimmed interior.
The 600LT Spider has a retractable three-piece hardtop which can be operated up to 25 mph. The ultra-light retractable hard top roof is housed in a tonneau cover which fits behind the seats. McLaren Special Operations (MSO) offered customers different levels of choice to customize their cars: interior, exterior and power output. The Spider is available to order now, starting at $256,500.
